Well, got home from work the other night and my baby red tail cuda was doing barrel rolls like a damn ww2 pilot. checked water params and it was fine. He died a couple hours later, I cut him open to see if I can find a cause and there is a good sized chunk of gravel (I use sand in my tanks) that I assume is from the tank he was in at the store or the suppliers tank.

Didn't take pics because I was too upset to do it (mad). I knew it was a lil too good to be true, finding a lone red tail in an LFS for 17$. there was a good amount of feces built up on the pebble, I don't know if he was able to pass poop at all since I got him. I figure it happened either in catching him (he survived for a couple weeks) or shortly beforehand or he would have died sooner

Sorry to hear. I as well have a rt cuda and I appreciate the little guy. They do become available online sometimes. Keep an eye out.

yeah thank you he was an awesome lil fish, shot at prey like an arrow. it was eating well, although I don't know for sure because I also have a leopard ctenopoma in that tank that could have been snatching some of its food. at least 15 baby mollies dissapeared and he had a visibly fatter and helthier look to him then when he was in the store.. then poof, donezo. upon looking closer I could actually see the pebble inside of him before I got it out. he had such a nice sheen of color in the light, next time I can I plan on getting at least 3 so they're more comfortable

yeah it blows but I got 10 in store credit when I told the owner, he also works the floor and I've been going to him for a while so he hooks me up. he was genuinely sorry about it and would have given me full credit if I had pics. If I wasn't a regular he wouldn't have given me anything but he trusts me. He says they should be getting more so ill give em a good look at to see if they have any bowel obstructions haha I would have been so much more upset say I had ordered it online, payed 40$ plus shipping. It happens though, it was my first time losing a main display fish in such a way

Eh,sorry but lol @WWII pilot.

Sorry for your loss! Those are some unique fish. I'd like to have some more someday.

thank you! right, I can't wait for my next chance but I don't want to order such a delicate fish online so it'll probably be a while. a small school would be such a brutal yet beautiful sight.

I'm sorry about your fish. It is a sad situation...:(

D.

thank you! it really blows, never lost a display fish like this at such a young age. the only ones I've lost were my senegal bichir that died of that weird bloaty thing those CB big box sens get, but he was at adult size by then. I literally turned on the light in my room to see him upside down (the cuda) it was a bad end to an aggravating night at work
