I have a growout tank but tbh I don't want to deal with little fish if I don't have to. Everything I've read indicates that these guys grow slowly so unless I can get one over 6", I'm not really interested. Even at 6-8" odds are good I'd need a growout based on what just happened to my imperial loach lol

Yeah i saw that, i feel the cuda would have a better chance then that loach though, being fast top swimmers as you know. But that cat is a real monster haha i wouldnt trust it either. Ever have the "silver gar" or rocket gar, its not a gar but its commonly called that, i think its the same genus as the yellows and reds

Ctenolucius hujeta for the gar. I've been calling them silver pike characins because everything else that looks like them is called a pike characin. I've never been able to figure out why they're the only one in that group called gars. The one I had went onto pellets quite easily. It ended up inside of that same damn catfish.

The barracudas are Acestrorhynchus. I had a redtail, A. falcatus, that I could never get onto non-live food. Hell, it was so timid that I could hardly get it to eat live! :irked:

It, too, ended up inside of Ginger.

I have a yellowtail now at 8" with my gatf, 14" tigrinus, flagtail and a group of 7 geophagus altifrons as dithers. He does great. Finally eyeing up pellets as everyone smashes them right infront of him. Hes too quick for the tigrinus to catch him tho. At first my gatf didnt like it at all. He kept ramming him but I think it was to show his dominance in the tank. No biting just slamming into him. Now they r always together.

Could you share some updated pics of your yellowtail? :)

I plan on making a thread of my growouts and their tankmates. Whats worked for me and what hasnt. Ill post a pic of him tonight tho

My small pack of aces arrived! I have 4 right now 4-5 inches! They are with my red tail payara in my qt. They are shoaling together...it's funny..my sabbertooth is trying to lead the group, she has 8 inches...seems like a "kuda" momi. no agressions until now.
