Ugly Fish

Not sure exactly what it is... some sort of eel, I think? I caught while fishing in the Monterey bay. Crazy looking Monster face and thick highback body!! Buddy took it home and threw it in his saltwater tank!

Anybody know exactly what species it is?!!
