uhg.. gotta keep the girlfriend happy (betta fish question)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah, I always forget that 10's are bigger than I think they are...well do the same thing with a 2.5 or 5;)

You could always put a betta condo in your other tank...not really a big fan of the idea but it is an idea.

I keep mine in a Fluval Edge with neon tetras, ghost shrimp, a small albino pleco, and 2 khuli loaches. I have no problems at all. I would steer away from guppies but neon tetras are too fast for the betta to catch. I do not recommend putting the betta in with fish his same size or larger. I have found that male bettas tend to be the victim in community tanks. Other fish cannot resist bitting the long flowing fins. The Edge is probably one of the nicest small aquariums available and bettas look great in them. I would suggest a heater as well. A healthier fish is more active and colorful.

hmm.. definitely something to consider i think neons could be pretty cool looking, thanks for the input

so for example if i got the 5 gallon i could have the betta, 2-3 ghost shrimp and then a small school of 5 or so neon tetras and most likely be okay?

I think that would be fine. One other thing to keep in mind is that bettas must surface to breath and turbulant water makes this difficult. They prefer still water. I would find a filter that has an adjustable flow and set it to its lowest setting. Also, ghost shrimp tend to eaisily get sucked up into filters. I usually put foam around my filter intak to prevent this.

true, the filter that came with the small tank would probably be very low flowing i'd think wouldn't it? also if it's an aqueon filter the intake has small bars on it to keep things from getting sucked up it - i've got a ghost shrimp in my 10 gallon with an aqueon filter rated for 20 gallons who has been in there for months, we'll see though we'll see, the more i think about it the more im kinda excited to have a beta... ahh the things this woman does to me haha

^ sponge filter? Hide it in plants or some small decoration or something?

I'd probably put a mystery snail in to help with cleanup (and because I love those damn things) and a frog just because.

This is my problem with forums....now I want to add a small cat & an eel to my 65, set up a sump for both tanks and set up a 5-10 gallon with small fish like tetras and some nice plants.

How much of this can I actually do? Pretty much none, maybe the catfish. :irked:

^^ u can get the cat and the 5-10 gallon ;D - im actually about to start a thread asking for opinions on mystery snails... considering getting one

haha saw that before this last response, I threw my .02$ in.

I don't think I could get away with another tank of any size...maybe if I hid it away in the second bedroom or something and spent less than 30 or 40 bucks on it...maybe...The cost of retaliation probably wouldn't be worth it though...it would at probably be at least one complete outfit:ROFL:

(she's gonna read this later and hit me:ROFL:)

bahaha... you could get one set up for probably 50 thats with everything done fish included - less if u dont get a fancy tank

yeah...eventually:p I really don't have a good spot for one anyways.
