Uhh my silver scales are turning....gold?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya Im looking at his scales again and on his left side all the scales have brushes of gold on them. I didn't think he'd be anything too special either, got him for $20 at 4" from an LFS in chinatown lol I wonder what his parents looked like.

I highly doubt that diet would have an affect only a few random scales. Can you provide a close up? I would be more worried that there is a possible infection or something. Not something I've ever heard or seen of on a silver aro.

Edit: was able to zoom in on your pics, don't look like anything of an infection. Seem there are a few scales with bits of gold.

Scales also appear to be a certain colour because of the way they reflect light, it is quite possible the arowana appears to be gold for this very reason, but I'm pretty sure the constant induction of carotene is doing something for it too.

fish scales will always have blemishes of weird things.
especiallys ilvers are more WILD than other aros.
asians are selectively bred, but silvers are not really selectively bred as such, most are jsut bred in bulk.

this is just an anomaly i believe.
all wild fish will never have a standard colour.

That is most likely the case with this arowana.
