Leeds, UK.
can somone tell me which medication i should use to treat for internal parasites [and safe for rays] thats also available in the uk

i have two rays and one is not growing as fast as the other whilst still eating very well. im considering selling them but i want to be sure they are parasite free before i decide. so...

which medication do i need ?

Just go on eBay and order small bottle of prazi pro.
Shipping took 7 days for me. I always got a bottle in my fish med box in case.

Just cause 1 is eating more than the other, does not mean it has paracites.
If its eating and also getting thinner and not gaining any weight , then might be paracites.

Sounds like one is just greedier than the other.
Are they wild caught?

yeah . both are wild caught . had them over a year. i dont like dosing for the sake of it but in this case i would like to make sure parasites arnt an issue. could be that shes just so active and not eating as much as the other, but id rather be sure.

i can only see one option of prazi on ebay and its £15 for a 4oz bottle and thats * if *it gets here . I hear good reviews about prazi and tbh it was the first thing that came to mind but as far as i know its not for sale in the uk ;( . is there a uk version ?

what do the uk keepers use ? there must be something thats readily available ?

You have had the hystrix for 1 year, so waiting a week will not hurt them.
Plus , royal mail is so ^*** in this country, u may as well order from eBay tonight.

Prazi is used tons in us to treat internal paracites. So I'd stick with that.

At least both rays are eating, and it's not like one is rapidly loosing weight....
As u said its just not eating as much as the other.

Post a pic . I'm sure the'll be fine for another week.

i have no doubt it will be fine for another week and is the reason i have time to look round and consider options. £15 for a 4oz bottle sounds like a rip off . what did you pay for yours for reference ?

still there must be something in the uk to use even so. ill get a pic but there are no lights on the tank atm :[

there you go . i know there are doubts when people say hystrix and because they are so hard to get i want to make sure this particular one does well.

i have no concerns with the other as she eats like a pig and puts on weight greta . i did however lose the male that completed the group due to sudden shock trauma due to bad placment of the tank [the tank was moved some time ago to prevent it happening again]

Firstly , the fat one is one beautiful hystrix. Stunning...
The other, is noticeably smaller, but the tail is still not thin and looks ok, just no where near as fat. Thing is , if that had paracites then surely the other one would probably have them seeing as they share the tank for a year...

I understand why u want to be safe rather than sorry.

I would definately PM aquaman... He has many many years of knowledge of keeping hystrix. (breeding them as well)
He'll definately give u better advice than me and I'm sure he'd be more than willIng to advise you .

Keep us updated.
The prazi pro I got is 118 ml which treats 480 g
I think it was a score. £20 if m memory serves me right.

Hi.
Your Hystrix look fine to me. I agree with Ade on two points the first been appetites vary between individul rays, some gorge themselves to the point of nearly popping and others eat just enough to get by,doesn't mean the one with the lesser appetite will always be that way, some rays take much longer to acclimatise to captive conditions than other plus like all animals you get some greedier than others.
Regarding the treatment Prazi works a treat, used it many times. It now goes under a new name in the UK,I will Pm you on Thursday with the name and company, the details are at work and i'm not back till Thursday.
£15 is peanuts if its a treatment that gets the job done safely!
Like I said though they look fine on the pictures.
Liking the larger one of the two, great pattern that one...is that the male?
