If i pass my test in january then i will carpool if anyone is left in need of a ride im not sure if i will be able to persuade my dad to let me borrow the TVR though cambo01 so we might have to cancle the standing quaters

Ah god no your taking the piss right.
I happen to like cars too much, have too much self respect, oh and too much taste to even contemplate buying a corsa.
I was thinking more along the lines of a new renault meganne or maybe a 2003 ford mondeo, may not sound like a very exciting car but as far as handling and performance is concerned by all accounts its a very good car especially for what i can afford to insure as a first car. I dont see why you should get crapy little supermini as a first car like a ford ka or a saxo or even a corsa. But im insured on all my parents cars so i can nick off with them occasionally !!
