You say 10ft plus in the wild but even that is rare 8 would be more common, But yes if you were unlucky/lucky enough it could still hit that in captivity

I hope that i could house these fish one day but the reality is only 1 person on this country at the moment can house and keeps huge gator gars, but ye if they are allowed to be imported proof (by people seeing your tank) and regular checkups of the tank and fish with the appropriate LICENCE should be the only way to get hold of one.

Who is this guy with the monster tank?
In the ideal world yes you would have tank checks but i doubt that would ever happen, its just a pity were not in a hotter climate or i'd have had one of these bad boys in a pond long ago.
