Ultima filter vs wet/dry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I finished hooking up everything on my UltimaII 2000 today and turned it on and found out I had the handle set for backwash. 15 gallons of water on the floor and many choice words later, I set the handle to filter and tried again. It seems to be working well with my Baracuda pump but it sure puts out a lot of water for the return! I am using a 1" hose barb elbow as a return jet and the water stream was shooting three feet long across the surface of the water. It was creating turbulence like a jacuzi! I lowered the return nozzle to about the middle of the tank and it works well now. The tank is 6' x 3' x 2'h and the amount of flow in the tank seems good (about 10x turnover) with no turbulance, just gentle waves. I think the filter will work out fine for me as my primary filter.

They look very cool (Ultima) but damn; they are pricey!

I'd love to have some on the 720 gallon but that would set me back too much.

They are the same housing, and they state that, however the internal plumbing and the Media make them the bomb...

I want one for biological on my 360 and then I will build a cartridge Mech filter for solids...

I think they would be a great filter, btu I think I'll stick with home-made sumps. I guess I am just that cheap. lol
