I’ve come up with a plan to try and DIY my own type of cyclonic backwash and was wondering if anyone has looked at the Ultima's proprietary setup on their center stack and could either describe or take pictures for me? I know they use a one-way check valve forcing the water through “jets” when the flow is reversed for backwashing, I am really just wondering how the water is diverted away from the jets during normal filtering or if there is unavoidable leakage. Thanks

I have a short video of it running but dont know how to attach it.

Good job. Very close to the Ultima version 1.0
You have a pvc welder?

I do. First time using it as a professional might be able to tell but like my Pappy always used to say...”If you can’t tie a knot, tie a lot.” Where the pencil lines are, I cut long grooves to act as directional jets. I originally bought this weird poly "cotton ball" type media but I think I am just going to use the Ultima specific media. I still have to weld a riser onto the bottom to lift the laterals up a bit to fit in my filter body and cut the center stack down to height. I curved the entry of the jets up to try and mitigate leakage during regular filtering. The opening faces up so when in backwash it directs the water out of the jets and during regular filtering (I am hoping) it deflects the water passed the jets and out to the tank with minimal leakage. Again, I hope that is the case. I have a standard center stack for back up incase this one doesn't function like I hope. Thanks for the picture, I appreciate the help.

Final iteration. Fingers crossed there is enough flow to mix the media.

The Ulitima design put slots on the end caps. Pointing down is a good idea because medias below the backwash jets gets packed and stuck under the laterals.
