ULTIMATE SW MONSTER

This thread gives me a head ache.

A full grown goliath grouper could not eat a full grown marlin. An 800lb grouper could not possibly put a nearly 2,000 marlin in its mouth. Not even close. Not to mention its very unlikely theyd even ever cross paths considering goliath grouper are found in shallow reeds and marlin in the open ocean.

Speaking of billfish, I think an equal sized sword fish would absolutely own an a marlin, sword are down right insane.

As for the grouper eating a shark. A six foot reef shark Im sure weighs less then a 3ft goliath grouper.

I say you do it pound for pound and if thats the case Im going trigger fish, any species. Those guys are down right mean, fearless and can cause some damage. As for the angler eating a trigger. Yeah right, anglers are generally small and triggers can be large and would shred that angler to pieces!

Golitah Grouper can take on larger impressive prey items unlike the marlins. But I can't believe that no one mentioned Morey Eels! They will eat dangerous prey items as well.

I just think it's dumb that Marlin is ultimate sw monster just because of their large size and a bill they posses but they only take on small schooling fishes....I can name few sw predators that take on impressive prey items.

Great White Shark and Megalodon would be Ultimate SW Monster ever!

And Morey eel will give triggerfish nightmares ;)

Wouldn't that be because Morays are mostly nocturnal and rarely come out of their holes or crevices during the day? I can see a scenario in which a moray would stick its head out in daytime and a good sized trigger comes along and pulls a vicious stick and move job on him, taking chunks out of Mr.Moray until he draws himself back in.

Or I can see the eel would stick its head out in a daytime and a good sized trigger comes along and become a victim of the moray. The eel will just chewing on the face of trigger and swallow the whole triggerfish.....alive. There are documents of moray eels take down triggerfish with no problems and some of them happened in the daytime!

Oh yeah,I can see that happening as well.I guess the moray is pretty much overlooked here because it is not much of a feared open water hunter.

Morays are no joke. I spent the day a couple of weeks ago sticking my hands in holes looking for them. Not exactly a task I want to do again any time soon. Hahaha

To be fair, I don't think that open water predators were all impressive to me beside the barracuda and the sharks.

sadly no sharks, and nice to see this thread revivied. moray eels got me thinking, a ten foot green could take a huge chunk out of anything. I saw some horrible pictures.

Pretty brave of you...I have heard of good sized morays chomping down on the ankles of divers and holding them down and drowning them....fact or fiction?
