Clarius have got to be the most "value for money" cat for a monster keeper to start out with-start at about 5 pounds in uk ,are tough as old boots, can be kept at room temp, can survive in low dissolved oxygen levels and the suppleness of its body means it can turn in a relatively narrow tank.
The only fish that i can think of that come close are "common plecs" and some of the larger snake-heads.

They are also one of the most destructive catfish, constantly diving into the substrate and re-arranging the tank, not to mention more often than not aggressive to other inhabitants of the tank.......all in all about as popular as head lice John......LOL !!!

Not entirely wallet friendly... they have a verocious appetite that will probably eat you out of house and home!

a cheap monster is still a monster = lots of food and water maintenance.. :-)

no one said anything about having tank mates-that would cost extra! (and pretty tank decor is for guppy-loving ladies :D).

keep one alone and you choose how much to feed (they will feed forever otherwise) and they will eat anything including pond food.
