Ultimate wallet friendly monster?

sun cats are nice.. not overly aggressive imo.. and not as beastly as many of their counterparts. easy to keep fed and happy.

Yes! Suncats if they are the correct suncat. The two look the same if you aren't fresh on the traits that distinguish them. One gets 14" and the other gets about 6".

Also, not a catfish. but peacock eels are pretty easy on the beginner if the tank is well-established.

suncat/eclipse cat seen a few pushing 10".. but only seen pics of larger. I adore my guy =D he got me hooked on cats for sure... abit reclusive.. but always happy to come out and eat! and fairly cheap to buy.. and will eat just about anything. TSN was my next step.. but I wouldn't call him a starter cat.. alot of research and reality checks needed to happen before I made his purchase. 2.5" to almost 6" now in about 1 month?... def not ideal... though Clarias are very striking in coloration on occasion. Illegal in the United States iir. and not tank-mate friendly as a general rule if the info I've seen is even close to accurate. Lima's are also one I've looked into when I decided to expand my catfish collection. smaller then alot of others and fairly easy to obtain and keep happy. But they do get fairly respectable size. >.< I did alot of research before diveing further into the catfish department..

peacock eels are nice.. but unless you can get them on prepared (which is always iffy but far easier then the other "eels" ) They are def a cool starter monster bottom fish and get quite personable.

i recon bichir is a good balance. exotic looking (dragon?) yet does not grow to ridiculous sizes. lots of varieties too. i don't recon to hard to keep as well.

hmmmm, though not very active though
