Ultimatum !!! Help with tank !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you shake the hell out of the safestart

Well, thank you for all the information, I mean I can't even begin to describe the huge amount of help you guys have been. So once again thank you for the support and the patience you guys been having with me. I guess there is only one way to learn in this hobby, and that's by failing and making so many mistakes. It sucks that it costs the lives of the very animals we enjoy so much, our fault. Nothing else we could say. I just purchased a TMC Fluidized Sand Bed Filter rated for 500 gallons, along with a SunSun HQB - 3500 rated 800 gallons to add a good bio filtration, instead of purchasing another eheim or fluval, I think this would be a good permanent and easy solution for maintaining my tank healthy. Along with proper application of conditioner/ water changes etc. I only paid 150 with shipping for everything, so I didn't break the bank either. What you guys think?

Hello; Just curious and you do not owe an answer. What led you decide the need for additional filtration? Near as I could tell from following this thread, it seemed that you already have plenty of filtration and bio media surface area.

Within the contex of this thread and the health issues for the fish, it did not appear, to my understanding, that filtration had anything to do with the problems.

No, i understood completely what i did wrong and all the ways so this will never happen again or at least avoid it as best i can do. The decision of me purchasing additional bio filtration has nothing to do with answers you guys gave me. I understand that the reason why my failure was having poor BB, due to tank not being cycled properly, it was cycled at one point. But the lack of experience in how to do things properly led my tank to crash. I never gave enough time for my tank to mature, and am always adding new fish/ taken them out for sales , buying more putting them in the tank, selling again. And most recently i added those 2 x 18 " bass in the tank. Thats when everything started going really bad, i never allowed my bio filtration to multiply to allow for the higher bio. That caused high amount of ammonia being produced by these fish = not enough bio to back it up , followed by water changes with no BB able to handle the ammonie. Resulting on BB die off, ammonia skyrockets and i have dead fish. I understand what i did wrong, sorry you misunderstood my understanding. The purchase of more bio is just something ive been wanting to do, and a FSB filter has caught my attention more than once int he past.

Well I lost my baby this morning ;(. My 20" Golden Clown knife didn't make it. When I woke up this morning, he was laying sideways in the bottom of the tank, still swimming lightly I grabbed him with a net, literally put up zero fight, not even a splash. when I grabbed him, I noticed his gills and inside his mouth was blood red. Like really badly burnt from the ammonia. the tanks is doing well now but I guess the damage was done, :/

Sorry to hear!

Sorry man. Make sure you test the water daily

Hello; just to follow up. One of the suggestions was to find a new source of tap water conditioner. I think the powdered form of prime was mentioned and also getting a factory sealed container.

Have you located a new source?

Kensfish has great deal on the 1 gallon of prime for $60 , can't go wrong on that price. So I purchased a gallon. Should last me quite sometime , water source there isn't much I can do about that. Tap water is the only way I can do water changes for now, am on a 3rd floor apartment .

Before and after pics of tank update . Parameters still looking good, no signs of ammonia and ph at 6.2. Water couldn't be more crystal clear, adding second dose of tetra safe start tomorrow, this product proved to be amazing, 1 dosage and tank cloudiness , ammonia gone.
