Alright so i'm looking for a sand that's ray safe and is really white. I've been looking at the Caribsea Moonlight Sand and the Instant Aquarium Crystal River. it says that its both are "soft belly safe" but does that mean my future rays won't be hurt by it? also how fine do i want to go? i use a siphon but i've never used sand before. So whats the finest i can go without it blowing around everywhere and wont be as easy to suck up when doing a WC?

Thanks for your input :)

Estes Ultra Reef comes in white. I have black in my tank. When I siphon the sand, very little is sucked up.

I have very strong water pressure, as my black Ultra reef gets all sucked
up unless I turn the water down. I have probably lost about 1/3 of mine.:irked:

Can't its discontinued or so i've heard...

You should go here and try to find a distributor in your area for 3M colorquartz:

Actually, you might need a link for canada, but that should still get you headed in the right direction.

The distibutor here has 1.5million pounds of it in all colors. It's discontinued, but there's plenty of it still around. He found it comical when I only needed 300 pounds.

I paid $20 per 50 pound bag.

i have used play sand from Home Depot for New World and Old World cichlids as well as mudskippers. It's definitely very fine and very white, but I haven't owned a ray before.

$4 for 50lbs.

Just from my experience.. If you use to fine sand i.e. Colorquarts "S" grade, they usually stick on the ray which doesn't look that great.

Here's an example:
