Umbee attacking my daughter

Ya his color is very variable. He was flaring at me so the angry colors were coming out a little. He will sometimes get purple stripes when he is eating/stalking moths or crickets I give him.
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Just as a little background on his upkeep I feed NLS and do 50% water changes twice a week. I fast him on water change days as well.

love the colors thats on the umbee. how long have you had him and how big is he?

I got him on march 31 2011 at 3" and he is now nearly 14".

you have a really cool setup man, i cant wait til my lil guy is a big monster like yours. mine is about 6" and has already bit me and drew blood..

Thanks man and when they get as big as mine getting bit is no longer an option it would be a pretty serious cut. The teeth on these guys are very wicked.

Haha damn I've never seen a big one in person, honestly mine is the only umbriferum I've ever seen in person...my area is all about discus arowana rays and such there are no real big cichlids out there

ya I live in Idaho and the only fish stores are petsmart and petco so I have had to ship all of my cichlids. But on the upside I dont have to worry about quality as much either. Every non petsmart cichlid I have seen in person I have owned other than a few 1-2 inch festae a guy I sold some baby umbees to had that he got on aquabid so believe me I know what it is like living in a stark cichlid area.
