UMBEE growout

You have one 3.5" fish in a 6' tank? That takes self control right there. It's still too small to visually sex, flip it over and vent it. I'll see if I can dig up a photo of my male around that size.

Ok, here are two terrible shots. It's really hard getting even semi-decent photos of a 3-4" fish in a 210 gallon with lots of 8-12" fish.

Here he is at 3-4" in the background. Not the elongated dorsal and anal fins.

And a couple months later at 4-5".

Not sure if that helps at all but it's the best I can do.

just a quick comparison between my DEFINITE female (top) and my current growout. female has alot more black in pectoral fins and no red on tip of dorsal fin.
The black in the pectoral fins would be a dead giveaway on her being a female. Looking at the two pics you posted I would say good chance you have a male.

these photos have really disheartened me :(. i'm now thinking it's most likely a female as well.

hopefully!!! sometimes it does have some black in the pectoral fins but usually they are the same colour as the body, with some blue in it

If this is correct then the OP must have a male.

still to young to tell

"sigh" (the biggest one you can imagine) i'm pretty sure it's another female! how's that, the 3 biggest and strongest out of my 12 end up being females!

very close to throwing in the whole fish hobby. so disheartened right now with all my FEMALE fish......
