Honestly, I am giving an estimate of the size and it is around 7". I didn't think I had to prove anything to anyone, but just to put up the picture for everyone's enjoyment.

http://www.cichlidscene.com/ Click on the umbee. Chris had the first real monster in the hobby, and probably single handedly started the umbee craze. Word was he sold it for $5,000 back in 05 or 06.

WRONG BOY! TOM DEPIRO had the Orginal big bad UMBEES but that was before your time. Cichlid scenes UMBEE is a decendant of Toms OG UMBEES a stunning speciemen as well. There are so many OLD School Hobbyist out there that are not on this fourm and have been doing this way longer than you and I. Personally my craze for UMBEES started in 1997-98 and I have been keeping them since thanks to Jeff Rapps article "The Unsung KING," (Caquetaia Umbriferum). Maybe for you modest man, your craze started with Cichlid scenes UMBEE but My love for this species started way before that. With that said I am so happy to see so many different and strong blood lines in the hobby today because prior to 3 years ago the gene pool for Umbees was pretty weak.

DAN, this is a magnificent specieman :headbang2but to say it is the best Umbee I will ever see is a bold statement. As I have seen many and of different strains that are equally or more beautiful then this one. Also with all the different strains of UMBEE that are now in the hobby, I believe there will be some more amazing UMBEES to come. However he is most definitely stunning and striking:drool:. GOOD JOB BUDDY and thanks for shareing.

i dont really get the big fuss over cichlidscene fish, yes it was big but the mouth structure just didn't look right.....maybe years of no new blood? look at the new blood out there now long predatory mouths like they were made to eat fish......

The Umbee has been a favorite of mine since 1994 when I saw a photo a male in a cichlid book I had.

I tried to get an umbee for years and had no luck finding 1 until fall of 2008 when I got my wild female " Miss Mean " from sharkaquarium.

I did not know about Jeff Rapps or any of the other umbee keepers until I heard about this site.

I wish I found MFK sooner.

Umbees are still rare to come by in this hobby by me.

To this day the largest Umbee I ever saw in person was my 9 inch Miss Mean when I traded her.

That is a bad boy! Color and body structure are second to none at a young age AND he's spawning for you already.......
As for freckling, his whole face is blue- where you gonna put freckles?
Nice umbee Dan.

What part of what I said was wrong? I never said it was the first or "Orginal". (Chris says on his website that "it is three generations directly removed from the Umbies bred by Tom DePiro in NY during the late 1970's").

I said Chris's fish helped start the popular umbee craze. His was the first one to be plastered all over the internet and on forums, and while not the "Orginal" it helped introduce more people to umbee's than ever before. I'm sure if you asked 100 people interested in umbee many more would know of Cichlidscenes umbee than Tom DePrio's.

7" or 10", who cares? This is probably the nicest umbee I've seen for it's size. Everyone always has to poke holes on this board! Nice work Dan!
