Update. He got the living **** kicked out of him when my RD/midas made it over his side of the divider. He's back to his old self, but you can see where he lost a lot of scales and part of his anal fin. :(

How much bigger is your midas?

Well, you can't really compare a half grown umbee with a full grown midas. He does like facing off through the divider.

He's between 9-10" now. Almost fully recovered. Still needs to grow the rest of his anal fin back, and you can see where he lost some scales. In another month or so you won't be able to notice.

I'm still pissed at my poor photography. The flash washes out the blues and greens and makes him appear more yellow. Photos were taken with two different light settings as you can tell. Neither is very impressive sadly.

such a nice fish, good job.

He's grown into a beautiful looking fish. Very cool progress thread.

Amazing fish MM. I don't think he's any less attractive than some other Umbee's I've seen... not quite the Blue umbee's that some one has here... but definitely nothing to sneeze at.

I've found the same as you when it comes to flash... washes out most fishes color. I almost always shoot without flash now. It is a lot harder, and takes a lot more patience, but it can be done. If you can manually adjust your shutter speed, that will help reduce the blurring effect that you will see with most of the pics. I also like to move the tank lights all the way to the front of the tank so the background fades out in the dark, and makes the fishes color pop even more. Just what I've found using my crappy digi-cam...

Good luck bro, keep up the good work. :D

I wish I could manually change things on my crappy camera, but I can't. I do know how to take good photos, it's just with an obsolete 35mm. I'll get a DLSR here soon. My no flash photos are utterly worthless as I cannot adjust the shutter speed so it overcompensates for the poor lighting with a 3 second shutter speed.

He has the blue and green in person. Just a really hard fish to take good photos of. I just have that much more respect for people who can pull it off.

I'm thinking of changing out my DIY fluorescent lighting and trying some white with blue LEDS. I think that would make a huge difference.
