I will be setting up my new 240 gallon in the next couple weeks or so and I have reached a dilema as to what to put in it. I have a ten inch male umbee whos gonna ne studly when he puts on more color and size thats really an amazing fish and I also have a young dovii pair which are also awesome. also theres a store near by that has wild umbees and I could get a female for my f1 male. what would you guys do? im leaning towards dovii but undecided.

im a parachramis fan , but the umbee is a lot less in the hobby than the dovii, so im saying go with the umbee..

My vote goes to the Umbee. As great and beautiful as Dovii are at large sizes I still don't think they compare to the brilliance of a blue Umbee.

That being said, I think you should go with whichever fish you enjoy most, because it's YOU that's going to have to look at this tank everyday. Not to mention your Dovii are already paired so you don't have to go through the trial and error like with the Umbee.

exactly cause my umbee is the most interactive fish ive had but the doviis are paired and have spawned. also the male dovii has a big chunk out of his dorsal that doesnt apoear to be healing. thanks for the great replay

If your talking about the Wet Spot in Portland, you may want to call. I was just there and they had 1 female left, but dont think she was WC or F1. I bought my beautiful WC male from them about 4 months ago. He has finally picked a female (took him long enough, he had 6 to choose from), they have been doing the pre-spawning ritual for 2 days now. Their tubes are down and it looks like it may be time.

I would put the Umbee in the big tank, and if you can afford to set up a 125, give that to the Dovi pair. They will be OK in it for a while. I really love my Dovi, I am just starting with the Umbees.

Good luck.

For me to keep a single specimen in a 240g it better be a show quality male unless your going to use it for breeding purposes. If your dovii is f0 or f1 and had good genetics a 240 will be fine. I've seen male umbees get over 24" and in that case your 240g might be a little cramped but I doubt yours will reach that size. I'd choose the fish that seems to have the most potential to deticate the 240 too. Goodluck
