Umbee or dovii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think what I might do is skip the umbee only reason I was thinking to get it is they are so hard to come by around me but my brother n law is planning on breeding so in two years I could always get one if I change my mind... Maybe I'll get a cpl dovii and put them in my 50 gallon to grow out and see what is the best coloration and keep him... Worst case I know it won't be hard to sell the dovii male or frontosa colony in the future when I make my decision on what to put in my 220

Her is my dovii he is only a baby still. He is 7 inches or 8 so I consider that still small considering their full max size.

I could be wrong, but I think a dovii could potentially outgrow a 220. I've seen pictures of doviis well over 24" long, and even at 20-24", it wouldn't be a very comfortable environment for such a large and active fish.

Yea after some consideration I decided to get the umbees, they are a little smaller, already grown to 4 and 6 inches, and rare around where I live my next question is how should I set up my 220? One big cave? Two caves? Or just open? I am going to turn on my 50 gallon and use incase there is too much aggression but I don't think that will be a problem since these two live together in a 90 with no problems but as they age they may fight I'll post pics once I figure out tank setup and get them on Thursday

I personally like the look & mentality of dovii.

Umbee are nice to though don't get me wrong. My advice is to make sure you pick a quality one & have the option of bigger than 220 if need be.
