This is my newly formed pair of umbee. i've had this male for a few months now after i originally gave it to a mate to grow out for a while. it's pushing 7.5-8" and is starting to develop some nice trailers. the female is only about 6 months old and is dead on 4". i've grown her out from 1.5" baby :)

they've been divided in a 6' standard for about a month now and seemed to interact quite well. the male doesn't seem like he wants to kill her at all. i've now put them in a 5'x2.5'x2' along with a 6" midas, 3.5" female convict, 3.5" super red texas x kamalau flowerhorn and a 8.5" gold spot gibbicep

here's the result...

Nice looking pair Cuban! I'd imagine you'd have quite a few people hounding you for fry in Australia. Good luck, keep us posted.
haha yeah maybe in a while. it seems the market has been flooded recently here in perth (hence why i have them) and that all those who were looking for them now have them. maybe in a year or so when there's some new hobbyists wanting umbee:headbang2

congrats. They are so young. You lucky to have such a young pair and watch them grow together.. Be careful with them.

thanks mate. fingers crossed they become a regular breeding pair. the male isn't really that aggressive which is a good sign but it's still early days. when i move into my new house i'll be buying 1 big tank for them probably a 6x2 for my new jag i just bought :)

i like how light colored the body of your male is and how blue his extensions and face are . i had a umbee before from shannon forrest (rare and unusual cichlids) that was the same . sometimes i guess that lighting could do that but all your pictures are the same . very nice umbee........
