Both tanks will house the Umbee sufficiently for a while. Upgrading to a wider footprint will be necessary though.

thats a tough call. I agree with justin however. I think for starters, since you already have the 96 x 24 use it to grow out a group and get a pair. Then make plans for the bigger footprint while you grow them out. But you will have plenty of time to figure out how to either get it in the house or maybe build it inside? But i think when you are growing out a pair you obviously will be perfectly fine with the 24" depth and the longer tank will allow for more territory and better spread of aggression.
If you're doing this tank custom, just don't exceed 30 in tall and turn it on its side.
