Umbee update

Females are under rated i agree...my largest is over 12". Plecos are not a good combo with umbees.....mine have eaten quite a few so it's back to glass scrubbing ;) Won't be long and there will be some great pics and video of the young gorillus

Ya the way the gorillus grow it really won't be long.
Scrubbing it is. My male has always been rough with them, and if they were somewhere he didn't want he would grab them by the tail and drag them across the tank! My largest pleco in there was 12" long and it didn't matter how hard it struggled, it couldn't get away. But I took them out because he started grabbing them by the head and thrashing them around violently. I saw that and knew it was time to take them out.

Just got some gorillus 3"ers from umbeeking. Looks like Ill be clewring out the plecos in a few months. Anybody have any luck with an algae scrubber or refugium in a sump with an umbee pair?

The refugium will be great the more filtration the better. All umbees create a lot of waste but the way the gorrilus eat, they will need a pretty hefty filtration system. Algae scubbers work but keep an eye out they will try to bite you and they have very serious teeth. I can be a serious injury so don't lolly gag about it!

Good point. Im thinking of doing a scrubber or refugium in the sump so biting wont be an issue. Im just curious if anyones done either, and how big theyd need to be. I know the bigger the better but from experience how much of a difference did they make.

Sorry for hijacking the thread
