UMBEEKING'S BLUE APE (GORILLUS BLUE) *UPDATE*

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Only you can tell the story, and almost all collectors write their own accounts. Its almost like you need a reporter-type dude, or maybe a college student, to interview you, and collect and organize the huge body of work you have produced on this site as far as accounts related to capturing, transporting wild specimens, and spawning them, as well the large amount of pictures and videos you have posted. I also saw videos over the weekend of your collecting partner, and it looks like he is very accomplished as well, maybe his encounters with umbie fishing can also add to an article. Our local club has a member who is studying the science - I'll reach out to him (or he may spot this post) and see if he has any ideas how to do this or leads on a possible candidate to help you. I think it would make a very cool article, and your story seems unique (not every day someone catches and brings into the hobby adult umbies, and a different variant no less), and documenting it would no doubt be of interest to readers. I'll let you know what I find out - can't hurt to ask.

I would Love to see that, Only then would I disclose Gorillus Blues location point. How would one go about doing that? MonsterFishKeepers is my home and is the only public forum I have ever been apart of. I went to collect Umbriferus out of my pure Passion for this fish and found a lot more then I set out for. There have been a few Members here that stepped up to help me get in contact with some important people in the cichlid world when I first went public with this fish but none of these people have responded to my emails. Another member was so helpful that I sent a few fish to him in Florida to have them tested by a well known scientist to see if they were in fact a color variant of Caquetaia Umbriferus as I originally suspected or if it was a new species or sub species. Results came back that they are in fact Caquetaia Umbriferus but a new color variant and Per the scientist clearly there is more variations to this species then what have been known. That was prior to my release of them earlier this year and no longer used sp.Gorillus in there scientific title but Gorillus as a common name to describe the black, red freckled Umbee. There is so much more to tell but my time is always short and so are my response most of the time when I am on this forum. This is my first great fine and Im sure it wont be the last as I plan to go on more collecting trips in the Americas and continue to bring in new blood or new color variants of whatever species I am into. People forget that I am a hobbyist/collector Not a Scientist, publisher, writer etc. and expect me to know or do more. Everything I know about cichlids have been self taught, learned from books or from observing Cichlids in the wild. Never a member of the ACA or any other cichlid clubs that would help or guide me to the right people for these kinds of things. I am also not a politician and hate to see it in our hobby. I don't think there should be any as everything on them should be science and science should be facts right? So with that said, I have been getting the word out on these amazing Umbees, the ways I know how, MFK,YOUTUBE.. Do you know someone that would be interested?

I can write my own account but MFK is the only place I would have access to post it. When you said publish it, I was thinking on a larger scale, like magazines etc. But thanks for the help brother. 2014 Im returning to Colombia with my team and will shoot a video with commentary of some new location points for blue umbees and black umbees and any other cichlids we come across. Stay tuned as we take the Cichlid world to the next level :)
