I have both and they're both beautiful specimens. Dovii used to be my favorite but ever since I've had umbees they've become my favorite. They're not shy and always out to greet u. Yes in most cases umbees are late bloomers but when they start to show it's awesome to see and they keep getting better looking as they grow. Dovii usually show adult potential in color around 5-6" and tend to be shy until 10-12" and the ones I've had become somewhat psychotic around that size and especially once they spawn. Mine tried to eat me and jump out of the tank at me during feeding lol whereas my umbees aren't

Same experience I've had, I'd probably go with umbees, they're more open water where dovii like to hide and a big male umbee is truly awesome!

a big umbee would from what ive seen need its own tank, ive only seen one big one a 20" male, that was a tank banging nut case, you could just seen that there was no chance it would let anything live with it, like i said that was one crazy fish

My umbee is more outgoing/tame than my oscar and the appetite on this thing is amazing, anything that hits the tank is considered food and he is only 2-3 inches long whats it gonna be like when he is 20 inches long

Doviis i dont know never kept one but if you want a outgoing fish with personality get an umbee and he attacks my finger when i touch the glass too.
