i have a under gravel in my 150 gallon and it just seems like a pain im running 2 xp3s in it and i don't really see the purpose in it i see that its moving water around but i get enough flow from the sumps i have any one have any ideas about under gravel filters? Cuz I'm 2 secs from just taking it out.

Their crap. 9/10 of MFK's don't use them. Hell I don't know anyone personally who uses them. Take them out.

With what you've got you don't really need them. That said, they do do some good...but if you're not really committed to gravel-vaccing they start turning into crap collectors.

you could always run it in reverse and pump clean water through your gravel bed

With two XP3s, you've got good filtration already. I took my out years ago and the water quality got better.

Yes, this is the best way to go. With 2 xp3's it wouldn't be hard to have one return with a "T" and push down the UGF stems.

the eighties called they want their UG filters back! J/K bud but wow get rid of those relics you have 2 good filters

Thanks every one for your advice ya i thought they might help a bit but all they are doing is giveing my Frontosa something to dig around and something for my FH to attack

On all my tanks, I use an undergravel filter with powerheads. In my 80 gallon tank, I have an undergravel filter with powerheads, Rena XP3 cannister filter and an Aquaclear 110 HOB. In my 80 gallon tank, I took out the gravel and took out the undergravel filter. With the Rena xp3 and the Aquaclear HOB by itself in the 80 gallon tank, ammonia shot up to the roof. The undergravel filter is the best filter in my opinion.

No flames please. I will always use an undegravel filter in all of my tanks because it is the best filter in my opinion.
