yeah i was wondering..what is the prime?

and i still have a the whisper 40i. and it uses the mech/chem & bio cartridge but would it make it a little better if I change it at different times?

but there's bacteria in the tank too right? so would that make the "cycling" just a little bit faster than the first time?

The BB in the tank isn't enough. The majority of the work is done by the filter because all of the water in the tank flows through it.
Yes it is a good idea to change the filter cartrages at differant times. this all helps but if you don't have the capacity to begin with then you will have a problem all the time.

Prime is a brand of declorinating agent...used to make tap water safe for fish.

use a good canister filter, not undergravel or hob
