the front of my tank is a half inch higher than the back . it seems to be all the way accross meaning its most likley the floor thats on a slight slope .

the stand is on carpet with thick underlay

the tank is sat on a layer of polystyrene about an inch thick

im reluctant to start putting wood under the stand as it will mean that not all of the base will be in contact with the floor and eventually it will just press into the underlay anyhow . not only that but its a b*tch to move and the stand is as heavy if not heavier than the tank.

will the difference in water level from the front to the back cause a problem with regard to strain on the panels ?

i dont think it will be a problem but id rather put it past you friendly guys and see what you think

tank is 72 x 30 x 24 " high

What I would do is empty the tank.
Cut a peice of foam with a slight slope.
Make sure the tank is level.
THen fill

Or you could shim it

shim it

put plywood under the stand and then shimsham

Be careful not to leave any gaps or the tank could break

thats what im woried about . the stand sits flat at the moment . the tank too.

if i put a piece of board at the back that means only the back and front of the stand are taking the weight . that will mean the centre supports are almost redundant.

i could put a piece of board under the polystyrene along the back . but ... will that help ? or will the polystyrene just settle around it and end up how it was without the board ?

how much of a problem is it going to cause me if i leave it ?

Zilch, zip, zero. If anyone would like to provide the math showing otherwise, I would be more than happy to punch holes in it. :D

The tank is on a stable and flat base. That is what is important. Being out of level is very insignificant as far as stresses and strains are involved.

I doubt that I even own a level tank. I'm not anal enough to even bother looking twice. I fill them so the water line is hidden by the trim or hood, and then never give it a second thought. I know my 250g and 75g are both out of level.

when my tank were out of level i djust used a car jack or what it is called in english, and lifted the frame that tank were standing on and added something under then i got it leveled without having to emty tank..
