So I have two lfs in my area and unfortunately the honest, caring, decent, smaller one is going out of business. That's not my main concern after tonight. After several months customer service has become non existent if you want freshwater fish or supplies, even that wasn't unbearable but tonight put me over the edge. 4 large oscars at least 9" a piece were laying in a tank clearly dying. This is not new by any means, in the last 2 months I've seen 7 oscars dead or slowly die with no care at all from the owner. He's openly told customers in freshwater to wait because he's dealing with more important customers purchasing thousands at once it's despicable. I myself have been openly ignored until I "show interest" in a $2,000 tank and stand which seems to get his attention rather quickly. Like I said the service is one thing but to let oscars along with MANY MANY other freshwater fish just die and be neglected because "they don't bring in as much money" is pure bull****. I understand it's his business and he can conduct it however he choses, and needless to say I will no longer be a customer of Aquarium Concepts. What I want to know is there ANYTHING I can do to bring attention to what is obviously animal cruelty? Is there someone I can call and even bring it to attention?

I'm sorry I need to vent after what I saw tonight. Tomorrow is our towns St. Patrick's day parade and I'm sure it's gonna be packed with people, a perfect setting to call the manager out on his misdeeds and terrible treatment of fish just because they don't make him a quick buck.

Vote with your feet and wallet. Personally I wouldn't call animal control for fish abuse. Dog and horse abuse largely goes unprosecuted in my area I've observed, ichthyic variety would probably be laughable to the authorities.

sneak in at night and take the dying oscars and put them inside the 2000$ tank. that will teach him

And you would get a lawsuit for breaking in. Honestly just turn away and ignore. There is nothing much you can do in reality.

I know what store you are talking about. I been there a few times. There are a lot of workers there. Sometimes it gets busy especially in the evening and it is hard to find help. I remember in the day time, people are not that busy and they really want to help. Just my 2 cents. I do not shop there too often because it is a far drive from where I live.

Unfortunately it's true :(

But I am a true optimist, and if you really, truly want to achieve something you'll have to devote endless hours of being ignored, and basically have people turning their face on you and laughing..

And right now you may be speaking out of anger, wait till tomorrow and see how you feel..

You can start by writing a letter to the owner and telling him what you have told us.. and give him the link to your thread.. it's a start.

To OP, after years of being in the hobby, you just learn to ignore them. There will always be fish stores who ill-treat the fish because fish rights have lower value than other pets in the eyes of society [as much as I hate to say it]. But you encounter them so much, it slowly becomes numb. Just close your eyes, walk away and pretend it never happen.

Thanks to all who gave (real) advise, and took the time to read. I'm going to write a letter in the morning and see how many supporters I can get around town who I know agree with me.

Again, thanks.
