should be ok in that tank for a while... when u plan on getting a bigger tank? he looks healthy, just make sure and get him on the pellets.

Hoping to get a new tank within the next few months. Any tips for getting him on pellets? I'm afraid I will have a hard time getting and older fish to switch to them. I tried pellets for about a week and a half when I first got him and he wouldn't take them.
The only thing you could do is starving it for a few days then feed the pellets. It might not take them right way. Eventually it will get hungry and want to eat. I know it sounds a little cruel but its the only way you can do it being its not housed with other pellet eating fish.

From experience as The butti tilapia is my fave fish, theyre mean as hell itself, up untill about 7in they may be ok with other aggresive sa cichlids . If yours is 11in it should be a solo kept fish by now tried live crickets? Wish i could run into a deal like that im sure buttis are illegal in all us states but im certain they are in these southern states
When did that happen? I've seen buttis available for years and still do.I was not aware they where illegal

Buttis get huge and a 90 gallon is not big enough. 125 is minimum IMO and 150-180 is much more like it. They not only get long but very thick and deep, very robust fish. You and you fish will be much happier with a larger tank.

+1 my lfs has a bunch of buttis for sale right now from 1" fry & up . they had a big 12"+ one like two weeks ago.
