I have been a diehard fan of the aquaclear line of filters for quite some time. Last night however, after doing water changes on a couple of my tanks, two of them simply would not kick back on. One of my two AC70's on my 55 does nothing when I plug it back in, and my ac30 on my 10g (3 weeks old) did the same thing. My other ac70 and ac110 were fine.

Anyone had this happen to them? Any fixes? Both filters are relatively new.

The probability that they both died the same day is pretty steep. Inside a 3 warranty, it's over a million to one. Outside a warranty it's much lower, but likely 100,000+ to 1. Can't fix bad luck, so what else?

I'm going with power as the issue:

1) they are both not connected
2) they are connected but the voltage is too low for them to operate
3) there was a power issue that killed them earlier

I don't imagine these have breakers or are the only 2 items coming through a standard power strip? If so reset the breaker.

I'd check for connections and then swap them directly to an outlet that is providing power to something.

One of my aqua clears always stops working after a power outage and it sucks, lol you reminded me I have to fix it. Usually something's jammed in the impeller or something so I have to take it apart every time it stops

I tried all of this last night. This morning I left enough water in it to prime itself and plugged it in. it kicked on about an hour later. the ac30 is still dead.

I think ill check the impellers

Usually cleaning the impellers and the inside of the motor resolves this problem. If not, you may have to replace the impeller. If the motor hums, you can always manually spin the impeller to start the filter.

just spin the impeller with a pencil (while plugged in), it might start right up....

I have both Aquaclear and Fluval filters ( small versions). They almost never startup after I shut them off.
As stated above...... remove the input tube and 'spin the impeller'.
I use a philips screwdriver though.... something metal as opposed to wood.
* FWIW....... most of these small filters are JUNK.

^Both of these guys are right. I have to do this every once in a while with my 110. Use a pen or pencil and just push it into the impeller. You don't have to spin it, just have it plugged in and hit it. Hopefully this works for you. good luck!
