I have four firemouth's in a 55 gallon. There are broken flower pots and lots of fake plants and rock structures, and I didn't notice that they had eggs. It isn't a big deal, I was expecting it eventually but I was surprised it happened as soon as it did. Now I have some free swimming fry! The pair consists of a female that is 2 inches and the male at an inch and a half. About 30-40 fry, but its hard to count. The other two firemouth's are only 1" long.

It'll be interesting to see how these young fish do for their first time.

Anybody else have very young fish breed for you, and if so, were they successful?

spellchecking, i should have used it

Thanks! I've lost a few over the two days, now i'm down to about 20 or so. I'm not sure if the parents suck or the other fish are eating them, or both.

can you isolate them in a small breeder tank in the main tank?

I got one of those plastic 2 gallon tanks with the plastic snap-on lid with slots all through it. Dropped an airstone in there for circulation and it keeps them separate from the rest of the fry (for no food prior to shipping) but keeps them in the same water as they were raised in, and the good filtration etc...

Thats a great idea thanks!

you're welcome!...that was the only was I could inexpensively, seperate the fry, and still maintain adequate filtration...
Here's the kicker...the Parents have spawned again in the same clay pot :screwy:...I hated to remove this spawn, but crap!,
I still got hundreds of fry from the last one...LOL;):D

Are these the same jags you mentioned earlier?

I think if I get too many babies i'll just have to introduce a predator into the tank!
