well because a lot of people get tired of having the same questions asked to just give the same answers, which is why they just give them the final result which is in this case you'll need a filter...

so take your "rants" elsewhere as that is not being rude rather it is just straight to the point rather then dancing around the bush... also always use the Search forum feature before you post...

It is not your job or his job to decide what needs to be searched. He is a big boy and does not need your help. The search feature? Of all the times I have heard that remark...this is the least aplicable. This topic is one that some would like to know the answer to. I gave three examples of things he said that rubbed me the wrong way. Did you read my whole post? Stop brown nosing and let him respond. I am an active member, I just am getting tired of his rude comments over and over. What if ALL users only searched and never asked? there would be nothing to search. (so to all the people who say this, you are worse than the tank size police)

I am fine with this statement. Name calling even with pictures, is rude again. It does not bother me though.

Since you edited this in, I will respond. You do not need a filter on any tank.... Filters only prolong the amount of time between water changes..(f.y.i.) I have a 5.5 unfiltered with guppies in it and they do just fine.......

Going to have a spare 15+ gallon tank soon due to upsizing all my current set ups. Was thinking of putting it in my bathroom, but with no power available, was thinking of a heavily planted tank, with a small shoal of White Cloud Mountain minnows.
Would this work?
Don't think I've ever tried anything like this before, so does anyone have any experience of this type of set up?
Would the plants keep the water oxygenated enough for fish? How do I keep the water quality good enough for fish? Lots of water changes?
Water temps for an unheated tank in my house generally stay around or above 70 degrees, partly due to timed central heating (although with obvious seasonal variances...).
Any advice would be appreciated.

There are a lot of excellent products on the market designed to be unobtrusive and perfect for a small tank. Some of the filters fit right in the tank. You could get by with just a small sponge filter as long as you kept up on water changes. I'd also recommend putting in a half cup of crushed coral. I've done this with a lot of the fry tanks. It helps buffer and stabilize the water chemistry. Can't help you with the plants. In my tanks we call plants...food.

The only thing I would be worried about with that set up...and I don't know minnows...is the heat fluctuations. A lot of fish...depending on the swing in temp...could get worn down by frequents temperature changes.

BTW...a tank in the bathroom is the sign of a true fish zealot. Welcome to the club.:)

He has no power available. That is the prob.

I have a wild idea you could use two three gallon buckets and do a gravity drip with airline tubing. the smaller the tubing the longer the drip. Dump, prime, fill. Kind of crazy but I am seeing it working.....

15+ gallons is a bit of water for this type of setup.. Put it in a window, and heavily plant it with low-light plants like Java Moss and Java Fern.

Find some nice labyrinth fish, such as paradise gouramis or a betta.. There is also some other varieties but they might be hard to find in your area. They can surface for air if need be..

2-3 white clouds or danios would probably live okay, as they don't respirate like most fish.. a 'shoal' is probably not a good idea.

Don't use a ton of chemicals, let the plants work as your filter.. Change a good percentage of the water every few days..

:iagree:

I think you should knock a hole in the wall and drop a feed from your 110. Problem solved. In the long run, this will make everyone happier, fish and humans. And what's with all the bickering on this thread?
