I am just wondering if there is anything we can do in those situations where you find a bichir alive on the floor. I know it happens a lot and I hope there is something we can do to maybe save these guys.

I've had two fish jump for "freedom" and both situations were similar but with different species. The first a 12" ornate. He was still wet and kicking when I found him so i put him in the sump as a readied a quarantine tank with water from his home. I added some stress/ slime coat and some salt and crossed my fingers. He's still alive and its been 6 months. The other dish was a 14" spotted gar. I did the same thing for him but his swim bladder was ruptured and I'm assuming some internal bleeding. He didn't make it and I have yet to figure out how he got out and half way across the room in the first place

yeah, we have to take into account the fall they take when they jump out from the top, the top of my tank is over 6 foot so i doubt much would survive on the way down :(

You'd be suprised how much they can take. While transfering an aro in my buddys tank we had it jump out hit the ceiling and wall on the way to the ground and the fish was perfectly fine

Few years ago i came home and found one of my senegals on the floor. He was covered with dust, completly stiff and absolute dry. I put him back into the water and after half an hour he started moving and is alive till today and healthy.
