Im getting a 240 and was wondering what the best way to filter it would be, but theres one thing, i unfortunetly cant build a undertank sump because ive got tanks under it and nowhere else to put them. Because of this im having a hard time figuring out what the best way to filter the tank is. The stocklist will be one jag, one oscar, one pacu, one occelaris, and one silver.

Heres one of my ideas. I will have a fairly large, sturdy, heavy duty container or bucket sitting above the tank that will be filled with bio balls, tons of filter media and some scrubbies (scrubbies making up most of it). The container will probably be around 2 ft wide, 2 ft deep, and 2 feet tall. There will be a pump that will be sucking water up to the container on one end of the tank to get the water up there. Im thinking of around 1000 gph or bigger. On the bottom of the container there will be a outlet hooked up to pvc that will let the water flow down back into the tank, on the opposite end of the tank as the pump. Ill also throw a couple of power heads on the tank for ciculation. It will pretty much be a above tank sump.

Let me know what you guys think. TTT

sounds like a quick and dirty over the tank sump... good enough..

Do what you want i did that and just ended up buying canisters later because i was tyired of my setup being throwen to gether. http://cgi.ebay.com/CANISTER-Aquarium-FILTER-build-in-9w-UV-Sterilizer_W0QQitemZ320316889221QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item320316889221&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 i just bought two of these for my 180 and the water is so clear it dont even look like theres water in it. I all so run an overflow box to a tank with the bucket of bio balls that has holes in it then an quiet one pump to a power head to curculat the water. No offence this just my opinion, good luck. turn the tank in to a sump. if its siting in there with no uses, use it.

I did something simular with a QuietOne 4000. 1017gph
I put the Pump in the tank with a large prefilter sponge...Pumped to the top of the bio-chamber (4 ft) then let it trickle down to the bottom where I had a 1-1/2 PVC outlet...
I did have 1" outlet but it proved to be too small, after it built up algae, 2-3 months.

I might add it was a PITA to clean the prefilter, I had to put a large Zip-lock, over the foam block then lift it out to clean it...Still it spewed ditrus and merk all over...

IMO these filters work fine and will allow for good perameters, however the set-up I did was a PAIN to service...;)

that will work
i have the same setup only its for a 75 gallon tank with a 792gph pump dont know my containers dimensions
but it
works for me
