Unhappy with LFS.

Recently I have found myself becoming more and more dissapointed with service and selection at my LFS. All they have are GT's,JDs,oscars,firemouths,Managuensis and occasional texas cichlids. Although they have a massive selection of african cichlids their selection of new world cichlids is horrible. Special orders are non-existant. I asked one store if they would place a special order for me and they laughed saying that they never place special order for customers. They said if I wanted a specific fish I would just have to wait until some came in. They have never heard of motaguense or trimacs. They got some dovii in and thought they were deforemed JDs. Although I am certain managuese are quite common in most areas of the country at one LFS here they think they are rare and 40 dollars is a fair price for a a 4" one. I also asked them if they had heard of rapps and of course they had not. These circumstances have forced me to spend a good amount of money having fish shipped to me. One LFS reccomendend Don conkel but he refuses to answer his phone unless you are a LFs looking to place a big order.. There are many wholesale cichlid breeders around however none of them deal with the hobbyist.

So if you are having similar problems please share.
 
Sometimes moron employees at the LFS can be of great benefit. If you know what it is and they dont you can usually get some stuff dirt cheap!
 
Yup I like Fronts and they are harder to get around here then you'd think. No one has them, if they do its b/c of a mix up ona shipment and they sell for $21 for like 2 inches. A local breeder wont sell them to any one but lfs and only one at that and thats a place called fishy biz. They get them maybe one time our of the year and they are still expenisive its a pain in the butt. I ran into a good deal when I got mine. Along with Datnoids they are bizatch to get around here to only one place has them and if we're lucky they may come. its annoying. They never have a good choice of africans not that I dont like mine, but where are the unique ones. Like xenotilapia no one will even ship that here and they are legal. no one can special order it and its to expensive to have it shipped.

IDEA: Get couple around 6 rubbermaid's - put filters and heaters in - order pair of Fronts for each one. Start selling them to local fish keepers and fish stores! :)
 
Ash, you could make a killing if you wanted to put up the money for a breeding colony. Sell the fry locally to stores and others. Extra money is always nice.

the Lfs here is always more than happy to special order something and there prices are good.
 
i now exactly what u are talking about,, i have the same problem with petco, i gothere and i now more about the animals than they do, i think they should give some kind of test before hireing dumbfounded employees.
