uninterruptible power supply battery back up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For those who are interested in run time on batteries: the higher the Ah (amp-hours), the longer they'll run. This is not a primary focus of a UPS for computers, won't be posted on the box, but you should be able to find it in the product's specs online.

I was going to try and figure out the size by how many watts of pumps I was running. Should I not do it this way?

Agreed. I was doing some research and it seems like UPS for computers are not designed to last for very long. They seem to be design to provide enough time for people to save what they are doing and shut down safely. Many of the ones I saw only ran for like 10min based on half wattage use.

My dad's one lasts half an hour, but time isn't a problem
thanks. need to run 4 pumps for 90 seconds until the generator kicks in

Yes, that is the correct approach for you, with only needing to bridge 90 sec.

Look into sump backup systems.
They are usually cheaper, and most run off of a Boat battery (deep cycle battery)
If you know a bit about electroncis you can even wire them up with extra batteries for longer life ;)

Me three! All your fishes gonna die in 90 seconds? Even if they jump out of your tank they still alive at least 300 seconds and longer depend on species!

Maybe a siphon is affected by a power outage.
I once had a filter where that was the case, and I always had to prime it again with a cup of water in order top start it up.

You never know another person's setup on this site, we all have very customized systems for our monsters.
