Nvm mata mata too big..

could you recommend any good shop stopping fish I could put as the Center piece of the aquarium, preferably eye catching, uncommon, more expensive fish similar to discus or angels
I’m a strong proponent of trying things that may not work as long as there’s a back up plan, so it wouldn’t hurt to try discus or angels as long as you plan ahead IMO
I know it’s totally different than angels and discus but Have you thought about puffers? I think a single avocado puffer would be pretty entertaining in there, probably spend a lot of time in the bubble watching you. If you did brackish a green spot puffer would also be awesome and definitely interact with you. I think that having a fish that will be curious about you is important with that tank since the bubble is the only viewing area

Have you considered salt? I think you would have many more options for that tank for a colorful centerpiece with that type of tank. I kept FOWLRs and reefs for years and found them to be easier than many freshwater setups.

Unfortunatly dont have the time or the money to go salt, and necause Iam pretty well versed generally specking with Fresh, Imma likly stick with it. Brakish as much as Ive wanted to try it would be a pain.

your right about the puffers and having a curious fish, I would have loved to have a single Uaru in there, previous experience and god I loved them, water puppys for real.. but he wont fit for sure

I live in a major city so Altums and WildDiscus are always in demand...

I way I had hoped was to set it up as a Blackwater biotope, with all small fishs except a Center piece fish...

South America has great species to pick from and not sure if I should go southern cool water species or tropical.. or if I should try and make a congo river community? I have no idea rn

Oh gotcha, salt is pretty easy, but the initial investment of live rock can get expensive.
But if you have a way to sell them if needed, go for the discus and angels, you could even buy small ones and trade them back in for more small ones later I imagine, seems like something an LFS would go for

I wouldn’t be much help with that, I’ve never done a biotope but I think duanes duanes might be of help

I would do a dwarf pair and a lot of cardinal or neon tetras. It’s not a good footprint for larger cichlids. Cool tank tho.
