I was given a universal rocks 3D background. It is new and has never installed or out of the box. Today I decided to do some trimming on it for a custom pleco tank I’m building. I noticed shortly after trimming my hand were black and discolored. I took the peace upstairs, filled the tub up with hot water and some white vinegar. I let it soak for about 20 minutes then scrubbed it with a medium bristle brush, then washed it off again. Once again my hands are colored.

Has anyone experienced this before or should I keep washing it or just pitch it?

Thanks I’ve got some very meaningful plecos to me and I wanna ensure their health and safety. Seeing all that paint and icky (lol) on my hands had me worried. I’ve have to do a water change on my 220 tomorrow so I’ll fill up a tote with tank water and let it soak for a couple days.

Washing it off with a hose and some pressure might help clean it up better than a soak. Universal Rocks uses pulverized rock as pigments to color their backgrounds. Mine gave off a black powder out of the box, but it appeared to be more dust than a paint or any type of chemical substance.
