An actual photo would really help, sounds like a FM but if the original owner reported that it was terrorising it's previous tank it could be something else like barred midas. An FM would cause a bit of bother if the tank was quite small and certain other tankmates were incompatible.
Good rescue though whatever it turns out to be.
