Unlevel Acrylic Tank- Crazing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea i wouldnt worry too much over it, you could probably flame polish it with a blow torch. The only acrylic tank i have is a 90 gal and i have so many bubbles in the seams... its kinda ridiculous but its holding without bowing lol.

But i would do some further research about flame polishing and im sure if you do try it you wont burn a hole in the tank. Same concept as putting a lighter under a water bottle, the plastic wont melt because it cant get to the melting point due to the water instantly cooling the surface so no worry there

My only concern is that I really don't have the time to level the stand for another month. Such a big project and I need so much help. I could cancel a work trip and do it in two weeks but that's something I'd rather not do.

You guys think it's OK for a month or so?

That's barely un-leveled so I wouldn't worry too much about it. A month should be no problem. Thats about a 1/8th in un-leveled if i had to guess. I would just shim the bottom of the stand with wooden shims evenly and call it a day. It took me about two days to shim my 220 and its honestly a 20 min job spread over two days. Just shim it so its level and then dont break the shims, check the next day and you might need to push the shims in a but more. You do this cause it settles with the weight of the tank and if you have carpet the carpet will indent. Hard wood shouldnt be a problem.

It needs leveled, but isn't an immediate need. You should be good. Every acrylic I've ever owned has had some crazing somewhere. You should have seen my 300G, it was rough. LOL

Thank you so much for bringing me peace of mind. I'll order some metal or composite shims and prepare for the project. Hard to sleep and be focused on the road with this in the back of my mind 247.

Thanks MFK

Metal/steel shims would be the way to go

Or you can use these, they are called EZ-SHIM. The are load bearing shims, we use them all the time at work. Also they snap off easily so there is nothing sticking out. One thing to keep in mind when using shims, since they are wedge shaped whenever possible use two from opposite directions. Slide them towards each other so that the stand is fully supported by the shim. Otherwise it's only making contact with the high side of the shim. Hope this helpsuploadfromtaptalk1397228144841.jpg

Great info johnny! Thank you. I'm ordering these tonight. I just want this tank to last as long as possible

That might actually be easier because I won't have to wedge it from both sides. I can cut a strip. Hmm ideas
