Its tough to say....the ray was past the fragile stage in growth, water is said to be good, and had no sores or marks on it...I assume it was eating fine....I guess sometimes **** happens....It s tough loss to hear any ray die.....

I would suggest an internal parasite. Many rays that die when newly purchased have internal parasites so even though they appear to be healthy and eating they are withering away. In the future I would always treat for internal parasites when acquiring new rays even if the ray is not sick it wont hurt.

Sorry for your loss

hey ryan, im really sorry bout you loss dude, the stingray was sweet. johno, howd you go about treating them for internal parasites?

PLEC+RAY=BAD NEWS!

Pleco's should not be in the same tank as rays due to the plecos having rough mouths and love to suck on anything, even a ray, and it will cause damage and open sores which could lead to an infection....That might be the cause of death...post pictures if you have any of it to show what might of happened....a photo CSI case....

I disagree, plecos & rays can be kept together without any problems IME. Unless they are an aggressive species of pleco they generally get along fine together.
If the ray becomes sick & lethargic then yes the pleco may pick on it but so will other fish, its natures way.

Sorry for your loss Ryan, my guess is that it was a water problem that killed your ray probably the ph drop. Rays are very sensitive to flutuations in ph

I agree with FSO , you may need to buffer your PH as the bioload of a ray is massive, i had a similar problem but luckily i didnt have any caualties..

I was told my Dan (Tropical Imports) that you told him that you had nitrite levels of 0.3mg/l. He was checking with me the other day that those kind of levels would of killed a ray which I confirmed and then he passed the info onto you.

Oh - Ryan, didn't you tell me that you'd checked the stats and that the fish was feeding fine?
I know that rays can die of comps a few weeks after buying them, but it seems like there was a prob in you tank after all.

Sorry for the loss :(
