Unstable Indo Dats and a new home for them

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Geophagus might be a better choice, silver dollars are some what skidish. That driftwood on the left is nice BTW.

Ah thanks for the tip about silver dollars. Didn't like them much anyway :) So geos it is. What do you think about Denisoniis though?

And thanks. That was a nice piece of wood i managed to find over at a public aquarium up in a wildlife reserve. Convinced the manager to sell it to me :)

Current stock in this tank is:
3 Indo dats
1 Red severum
6 Clown loaches
3 Yo Yo loaches
1 Raphael catfish
1 Blue phantom pleco
1 Angel pleco

I think denisoniis barbs will work good in with your current stock and will bring color to your tank too. I had a group of 8, they kept to themselves.

Of course. Bad experience with tiger barbs.

Spoke to the LFS, said he can arrange just that there is not much demand for them these days. Don't know why. Such beautiful fishes. Hope they are captive bred. They've been exploited like crazy.

Agree they're pretty, How big is your dats? I dnt know if your LFS can get big one. They would be perfect for your set up but your dats kinda worry me.

I think 4", 3" and 2" approximately.

Let's see what he manages to get. Considering that these fishes are called Miss Kerala after the state in which they are found and where i live, i should be finding them everywhere. But i guess, what is caught is directly sent for exporting because of the international demand for them.

If not them, then geos. Just that Geo's are rare and very very expensive.

still no luck getting dollars, denisoniis or geos.

gave back the red severum as he has started to harass even the biggest dat. now it's just the dats, loaches and plecos.

my wife and daughter are like "why do we have a tank full of water with nothing in it?:P"

c'mon dats, get stable fast

small update. since the exit of the severum, the dats have slowly started coming out more often and poking at the glass for food.

good sign? i'll take that and hope they stripe up soon :)

My LFS has a couple of mid sized freshwater archerfishes [clouded archerfish]. Would they co-exist with dats?
