A BABY deer rejected by its mother has been adopted by a pair of dogs.​

The Pere David deer was one of twins born at Knowsley Safari Park near Liverpool. Believed to be the first twin Pere David deers born in captivity, baby Mi-Lu was rejected by his mother, possibly because she was expecting only one. Staff at the safari park were left with no choice but to hand-rear the fawn, which is only a few weeks old.

They were amazed when the park's dogs Geoffrey and Kipper, a lurcher and a Golden Retriever, took a shine to the new resident. The unlikely trio now sleep together as well as taking daily walks around the grounds.

Park manager David Ross said: "They normally only have one baby so we believe the mother may have been looking around and thinking, 'Hold on, why has nobody else got two?'.

"She only looked after one and ignored the other, she just did not want to know any more.

"Mi-Lu wasn't doing very well and none of the other deer seemed interested in him so we had to take him in."

Ultimately, staff hope to return Mi-Lu to the herd.

Pere David deer are originally from the China swampland where they were discovered in 1865 by the French missionary and explorer, Pere Armand David.</SPAN>

Clover, an 11-month-old female rhino calf, and Bok-Bok, a young goat, eat at the
Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve northwest of Johannesburg on May 13, 2005.
Clover, who was orphaned in the wild when her mother was slain by poachers has a constant companion in Bok-Bok, who was also lonely and abandoned.
The pair of orphans have formed an unlikely bond although horns and a love for horse pellets are about the only things they have in common.

Peggy Couey of Dragonwood Farm, a pig sanctuary, wrote, "Today I was able to catch a shot of my little kitten Tom (aka Tom Mix) and his brother Jerry as Tom saddled up and rode out into the sunset on DJ, one of the little piglets here. This is an every day event here, and they both love it. Once DJ sets off Tom sits down lower and holds on. I didn't get the award winning picture but I did get one before they were both full grown!"</SPAN>

These two kittens were so tiny they fit easily in a teacup when Denise found them abandoned. They have grown up in the barn with the pigs, cuddled down on chilly evenings under the hay with their favorite giant. The pigs would never step on a kitten, or on either of the adult barn cats, though they certainly don't mind a bit stepping on my tender little toes!!

Houston dog discovered nursing kittens
A Houston contractor came upon an unusual scene in southeast Houston Thursday.
So far, the kitties seem perfectly content with their surrogate mom.
"This is the most unique situation I've ever witnessed -- a dog nursing kittens," said Napoleon Brauns II.
The contractor was working in a backyard on Southmore when he saw what he thought was a mama dog and her pups. But when he got closer, he realized those pups were actually newborn kittens.
