I bought my Bamboo Shark today. She's about 1ft long. Acclimatised her for just under 2 hours using the drip method.

Since she's been in the tank she's not settled down at all. Constant swimming. At first she kept swimming into the glass, not hard, but enough for me to think that's not right. She's been in the tank about 4 hours now, lights on or off it doesn't change her behaviour.

I had my levels checked out by the shop I bought her from. Everything matched execpt the SG. Their's was .22 and mines .21.

Had anyone else experiened this? A friend of mine kept a Bamboo before and he introduced it to a tank with a slight bit of nirite and it he said it acted like this. I've tested my tank myself, and 2 different shops have. There's 0 trace of ammonia and nitrite. Nitrate is about .10

I'm worried in case something is wrong. There's plenty of holes to hide in the rocks, but she's not going anywhere near the rocks at all. Swimming mostly mid-top level of the tank. Seem's to go through spells where she's really active and then just quiets down.

She's keeps occasionally still tapping her nose against the tank but no way near as much as when first introduced.

Any advice please? The shark itself seems in perfect health. Had a tank to herself at the shop. They've had it in since Thursday morning for me. It got fed at the wholesalers that morning so they haven't fed it since.

In the shop she wasn't moving at all. Just hidden in some rocks with her head pointing out. Now you would of thought my tank is full of Red Bull rather than water....

Any help/advice please?

She seem's to have settled down now. Hopefully it was just the shock of going into a larger tank or something.

All seem's well. I'll try feeding her tomorrow or Monday. What's the best food to start them on? My friends goes crazy for crab meat...

At 12" she should eat almost anything. Squid, shrimp, clam, mussel, octopus, fish, I would try them all. It is unusual behavior to be so active. They usually just sit put until acclimated. You may have a high strung one. Keep an eye on respirations - it will tell you how stressed she is.

From what I've seen she's breathing normally. At about the same pace and intake that us standard humans take.

She seems fine this morning. She was asleep when I first went down now she's just shuffling around in the sand and nodding off again it seems.

Might take her a bit to settle in. If you bring your salinity up to about 27-29, she'll be a stronger eater for you. Sometimes they slow metabolism in lower salt levels.

Ok thanks. Should I aim to pump it up in one go or gradually do it? I've always kept at 21/22.

Bought her some frozen fish bits today to see if she'll eat tonight. How much should I be feeding her? I've been told one or two bits of fish meat that she's able to swallow?

Take it up slowly. At that size, you can feeder her two ways:
A little bit daily or larger meals every other day. As she grows, take her to every other day.

Ok. I change my water twice a week so I'll start increasing it slowly through that. I've re-arranged the rocks yet again and she seems to have settled on a cave I made for now. She seems to just lie in there now :)
