A couple of years ago I bought three juvenile Redfin Borleyi's hoping to grow a bright red male. As things sometimes go, "No Luck" all females. I traded all of them back to the LFS. Several months ago I decided to give it another try. While at the LFS, peering into the all juvenile Redfin Borleyi display tank, I noticed a dominant inch and a half Borleyi chasing all the others. This little guy was built like the other silver bodied / orange finned Borleyi's, except his entire body was dark blue almost purple, including his fins. Never seen that before so of course I bought him.
The Borleyi is now almost 4" and until today, remained totally blue. When I turned on the lights this morning "Bingo" my Borleyi is turning red. I'm still not sure if my Redfin is a standard copadichromis Borleyi Kadango. If anyone has any ideas regarding positive species identification, let me know.
