up to what size does a spotted gar grow?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they normally top out at a bit over 2 feet in a home aquarium, in the wild theyve been caught at over 5 feet. They need length and WIDTH in the home aquarium, not so much height.

4' in the wild(source--www.primitivefish.com) and ard 2' in captivity. there's loads of info on this site, go do some digging up! happy gar keeping!

3' in captivity....by captivity i mean huge tank or pond...otherwise u risk dwarfing them or making them smash against the glass...in a large pond they could even get to about 4 feet...

show me proof! i have never heard of a captive raised florida/spotted reaching this size...maybe on very rare occassions, but ive never heard of it. i would agree w/ around a 2' max size in home aquaria...maybe a bit larger.

I agree with Jordan ... i would also say around 2 max size in a home aquarium..

once mine hit 18" he pretty much stopped growing also. from what ive heard/read this is pretty typical of florida/spotteds.

id say to be safe you need a tank atleast 8'x3'x2'....
