yea .....right? Network TV gets DC Universe and NETFLIX gets DareDevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Marvel's line-up. DC's storylines just seem so boring and lame sometimes....even a lot of their characters, despite being original before the other comic book lines - seem very generic and uncreative. When I found out about al this cool new Marvel stuff ONLY on Netflix I was NOT pleased at all.
Before trying to watch a superhero tv show, everyone has to understand that it will not be the same as a superhero movie.
First is the huge difference in budget. They spend $200-$250 million for a 2-3 hour movie. I'd be surprised if they even spend $1 million per episode on a tv show. So, 3 episodes is about the same as a movie. That's $3 million compared to $200+ million.
Second is the actors. Because of the lesser budget, they have to use less popular actors.
Third, which I've mentioned in TWD thread. Is this high action burnout issue. Most movies throw everything at it and tend to wrap it up at the end. TV shows try to build from one episode to the next or they do it so the show 'resets' the following week.
The funny thing is...the biggest issue I have with tv superheroes comes from the script. In the Flash, he smiles too much, in Arrow he is grumpy too much(opposites). I remember the trailer for Supergirl. It appeared goofy, but once you start watching it...that goes away. I actually think they are all good actors. They are just being told to do stupid stuff at times
Going back to the budget. These shows are nothing compared to The Hulk, Spiderman or Wonder Woman of the 70's where their greatest threat was a common person. Flash and Supergirl have been doing a pretty good job of showing decent fights and criminals. Arrow and LOT still need some work on this. AOS and Gotham are really in a different group as they really are not a 'superhero' show.
Since I don't have netflix, I can't speak on those shows.
Yes, I have enough time to type all this.
