  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in my experience ocells are timid eaters.... and hard to weind them off live.... nice looking pbass tho!

I think it has alot to do with whether they are wild caught or not, and when they are introduced to prepared food. Obviously farm raised or captive bred fish are going to be introduced to prepared foods at a much earlier age than a wild caught fish might be. When there are 100 1" juvies in a tank and the keeper drops in blood worms, all it takes is about 5 of those to start taking them then in a few days, they all are. Now you take a 4" fish that was plucked out of the Amazon somewhere and thrown in a tank, it doesnt know the first thing about eating a pellet, and it was not trained by 99 other fish from the time it was an infant to do so. Kind of like the cant teach an old dog new tricks thing. Not saying a WC fish cant be switched to prepared food, just saying its much much easier to do if you start them in pack of 10 or more when they are 1-2".

Man I want Pbass.

Yes you do!!!!!!! Come into the Siccness Cichla are calling. I can see the forsce is strong with you young one!

Nice job Paul. I think it's time to change that signature my friend. You have now been Cichlatized! I know you love Creni but it's time to let it go bro the Cichla have taking over your life bro.

As for the eating thing I think Venom is correct for sure, Wc Cichla will come around it will just take longer. How long have I been trying to get my Cichla to eat pellet's? THEY JUST DID last night. So it's a keep trying thing with Cichla at any size even if the don't show intrest you gotta keep trying. They will come around. I wish they were like Creni and just ate whatever you threw in the tank but it's not happining. Keep up the good work my Young Padi-one.

the CB one is MUCH less of an aggressive eater even compared to the WC one. The WC one goes after the feeders aggressively, but doesn't stuff itself like the others. It eats about the same amount as the tem and orino, but comparatively, it's only about half. Which is fine, maybe it'll let them catch up in size so there's not as much of a differential. I may have to put the CB one in a smaller tank by itself and try to get it to hand-feed. Good idea?

You sure do, Tyler! Time to get a bigger tank :D

The creni in parantheses means you can say it either way ...Cichla or Crenicichla :D kinda like (s)he...or am i missing your point? :)

Glad you got them on pellets...that's awesome :headbang2 My lucius' took forever to get onto pellets, but dead foods were never a problem. My fire is still having a hard time w/ market foods.

thanks, bruce. I appreciate that.

I have one question. Do you think my filtration is adequate? It is filtered by 2 Penguin 350's filled with AC filter foam and an AC110 (one bag of bio-media and 2 foam blocks). I might swap some of the filter foam out for more bio-media (maybe just the AC), but the stuff that isn't collecting waste should act as bio-filtration, too. I am also going to put my AC70 powerhead in there, but that will only help get the water to the filters.

Actually, I have two. The other one is the one I asked earlier about putting the CB ocel in its own tank.
